Safeguarding

At Scarborough Pupil Referral Service, we are committed to safeguarding the welfare of all of our pupils.

What is safeguarding?

The NSPCC defines safeguarding as “the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.”

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility

SPRS Aim to:

  •   Protect children from abuse and maltreatment.
  •        Ensure all pupils at SPRS are safe and all child protection procedures are in place, updated and monitored as appropriate
  •        Ensure all staff are kept up to date and trained in school policy and procedure in regard to safeguarding and child protection
  •       Named staff are to give advice and support in a confidential and non-judgemental manner.
  •        Available to provide support to pupil

At SPRS we recognise our wider responsibilities and understand the importance of recognising and responding to pupils who may be vulnerable to radicalisation.

The staff at SPRS have all taken part in training that has been provided by the Home Office, this is updated on a 3 yearly basis and part of the induction of all new staff. This is a continuous programme as case studies and updates are shared frequently with all staff. If a member of staff felt there was a need for a report to be completed this would be discussed with the DSL and through discussion an appropriate referral through the Channel programme may potentially be made.
